Our Story

Slum City Tour Nairobi is an authentic, community-led tour experience in the heart of Kibera — the largest informal settlement in Africa — and across the city of Nairobi. It is run by Rally Walker, a professional teacher, community leader and founder of Agape Hope for Kibera. This is not a tour that highlights poverty. It is a tour that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit, the richness of a multicultural African community, and the everyday dignity of people building a better life together. Rally's story begins in Kibera itself. Raised in the community, he received his secondary and university education through the support of a local church, went on to study English Literature, and became a professional teacher. That opportunity changed the course of his life — and he has spent the years since making sure others get the same chance. He began by volunteering at a local school and guiding visitors from the church and from Nairobi hotels around the community. What started as a way to earn a little income grew into a calling. Today Rally is the Head of Education at Agape Hope for Kibera, a free school for orphans and vulnerable children who are referred by social workers — no child is turned away, and no family pays a shilling. The school has grown steadily over nearly a decade, adding more teachers and now preparing to move into a permanent home of its own. Remarkably, the ground the community trains on was once a dumping site at the local Toy Market; residents came together, reclaimed the space, and turned it into a place of learning, recycling and opportunity. Every Slum City Tour directly supports this mission: 20% of all proceeds go to Agape Hope for Kibera, funding free quality education for orphans and vulnerable children and providing sanitary towels so girls never miss school. When you book a tour, you become part of that circle of support. On the Kibera slum tour, visitors are welcomed into the innermost parts of the community — real households, local enterprises, recycling initiatives, and edutainment featuring traditional dances performed by the schoolchildren. You will see many cultures living side by side as one, and meet a community that has produced some of Kenya's biggest musicians, comedians and football talent, including one of Kibera's largest youth football tournaments with thousands of children taking part. Pick-up points are flexible for your convenience. For those who want to see more of the capital, the Nairobi city tour includes the KICC viewing deck for panoramic city views, the vibrant City Market for local crafts and ornaments, the historic Macmillan Library, and the Nairobi Railway and Macmillan museums. Rally is also a passionate champion of the Bitcoin circular economy in Kibera. He accepts Bitcoin across his ventures — from his clean-water business to his community washroom facilities — and has helped many young people and neighbours adopt Bitcoin for faster, cheaper everyday payments. Booking your tour on Afribit Marketplace lets you pay seamlessly with Bitcoin and support a genuine, grassroots circular economy. Come walk with us. Discover the real Kibera, support a free school, and experience Nairobi through the eyes of the people who call it home.
